The first record of the Crown operating as a pub was in 1769 when William Burrell became the first licensee. Since then, it has been a major feature in the day to day life of the village. The Crown, as it stands today has literally risen from the ashes following a major fire which destroyed most of the premises in 2003.The pub has been lovingly restored and has embraced all the features the original pub had. Situated only a short drive outside Chelmsford, the pub remains a popular venue not only for the locals but for people looking for a 'destination' pub with character and a relaxed atmosphere.
Thoughtfully positioned furniture ensures your comfort in which to enjoy a drink or something to eat in the company of friends and family.
The bar provides all the popular brand names along with a selection of Real Ales and a good wine list to compliment the menus. You can choose from a menu of traditional light snacks or if you prefer, something more substantial from the main menu. Food is served seven days a week culminating on Sunday with a traditional roast on offer for £8.50. The Crown has a self-contained function room with an independent bar and access which can accommodate up to 50 people, making it ideal for both private parties and business functions. The Crown has something for everybody and owner Kevin Pooley, along with the rest of the team would be happy to see you the next time your visiting the area.
